China reports six new COVID-19 cases, five asymptomatic cases

China reported six new cases of the novel coronavirus on Sunday, three more than the previous day.Five of the new cases, recorded by late Saturday, involved travellers arriving from abroad, the National Health Commission (NHC) said on its website.

One locally transmitted case was found in the southern island province of Hainan.

The NHC also confirmed five new asymptomatic cases, or people who are infected with the virus but do not show symptoms, compared with two the previous day.

The total number of infections in China, where the virus first emerged late last year, stands at 83,036. With no new deaths reported, the death toll remained 4,634.

COVID-19 patients with severe pneumonia should be considered for shifting to ICU

Symptomatic COVID-19 patients who have "severe pneumonia" with a respiratory rate of 30 breath per minute should be considered for shifting to ICU, according to a clinical management protocol for adult patients suffering from the disease.

A COVID-19 patient with severe pneumonia also has an oxygen saturation level (Spo2) of less than 90 per cent, on room air, it said.Read more

India adding COVID-19 cases faster despite 48.2% recoveries

India has been making a steady recovery from COVID-19 but also reporting new infections at a faster rate. On Saturday, India reported its highest ever new cases – 9,887 in a single day – adding more than 9,000 cases for the third consecutive day.

The death toll due to COVID-19 also reported a record hike of 294 in a single day, taking the total fatalities to 6,642 since the outbreak was first reported in India on January 30.

Tamil Nadu caps COVID-19 treatment charges in private hospitals

The government also said private hospitals should not charge any fee over and above the fixed slab for treatment. According to a press release issued by the Health Department, private hospitals should not charge more than Rs 7,500 a day for those admitted in general wards, while the maximum amount to be charged in ICU is Rs 15,000 per day.

A quick glance at how states across India are doing on the COVID-19 tally front:

Telangana: The state's tally has risen to 3,496 with 206 more people testing positive for COVID-19 today. 123 people have lost their lives due to the disease so far.

Madhya Pradesh: MP recorded 232 cases of COVID-19 and 15 deaths today, taking total number of cases to 9228 and death toll to 399. 2721 patients are undergoing treatment.

Himachal Pradesh: Number of COVID-19 positive cases has reached 400 in the state. with over 200 active cases.

Haryana: The state added 355 more cases today taking the total tally to 3,952. 24 people have died of COVID-19 in Haryana so far.

Delhi: The national capital reported 1,320 new COVID-19 cases and no virus-related death in the past 24 hours. With that, the total number of cases stands at 27,654 out of which 16,229 cases are active. A total of 761 people have succumbed to COVID-19.

Rajasthan: The desert state added 253 fresh COVID-19 cases to its tally along with 13 deaths today. That takes the state's total tally to 10,337 and death toll to 231. 2,605 cases are active.

Jammu and Kashmir: 143 new COVID-19 cases & 3 deaths were recorded in the Union Territory today, taking total number of cases to 3,467 & death toll to 39. Number of active cases stands at 2,302.

Uttarakhand: The state reported 58 new cases of COVID-19 taking the total number of cases to 1303.

West Bengal records highest single-day spike with 435 fresh COVID-19 cases in 24 hours along with 17 deaths

With that, the total number of cases stands at 7,738 with 4,236 active cases.

As India moves towards unlocking various sectors, COVID-19 cases have been rising exponentially with a jump of nearly 61,000 cases in the past one week, and medical experts feel that if the situation spirals out of control, the lockdown may have to be reimposed.

UP records biggest single-day jump of 496 COVID-19 cases; tally at 9,733

Uttar Pradesh recorded its biggest single-day jump of 496 COVID-19 cases on Friday, taking the state's tally to 9,733, while 12 more people succumbed to the disease, a senior official said.

With the fresh deaths, the toll in the state has risen to 257, said Principal Secretary, Health, Amit Mohan Prasad.

There are 3,828 active cases in the state, while 5,648 people have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, he said.

Prasad said a helpline was launched on Thursday through which ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist), anganwadi and ANM (auxiliary nurse midwife) workers and private pharmacists can inform authorities about suspected coronavirus cases.

"If anyone is buying medicines for fever and cough, private pharmacists can give information about them on the new helpline so that they can be tested and provided necessary treatment promptly," he explained.

Railways refunds Rs 1885 cr to passengers who booked tickets during lockdown

The railways said it has refunded Rs 1,885 crore to passengers who booked tickets during the lockdown period and whose tickets were cancelled.

The Indian Railways had suspended its regular passenger train services during the nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of the highly contagiouscoronavirusinIndia.

"As the trains were cancelled en masse, the railways faced the challenge to return a huge amount of money towards refund to the rail passengers.

"The railways has successfully refunded Rs 1885 crore towards cancellation of tickets to passengers during the period March 21 to May 31 on tickets booked through the online mode," the railways said.

DRDO develops a disinfection unit named Ultra Swachh

DRDO develops a disinfection unit named Ultra Swachh to disinfect a wide range of materials, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), electronics items, fabrics, etc, according to a PIB report.

The Ultra Swachh comes in two variants namely Ozonated Space and Trinetra Technology. Trinetra technology is the combination of Ozonated space and radical dispenser. Treatment is optimised with automation for quick disinfection cycle.

Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences (INMAS), the Delhi based laboratory of DRDO has developed this product with industry partner M/s Gel Craft Healthcare Private Ltd, Ghaziabad.

The system uses an advanced oxidative process comprising of multiple barrier disruption approach using Ozonated Space Technology for disinfection.

The system is double layered with specialised Ozone sealant technology assuring trapping of ozone for the necessary disinfection cycle. It also has catalytic converter to ensure environment friendly exhaust i.e. only oxygen and water.

The system is in compliance with International Standards of Industrial, Occupational, Personal and Environmental Safety.

PM launches one-stop portal for MSMEs

"Launched the portal, Champions.gov.in," said PM Narendra Modi.

"This is a one stop place for MSME sector. The focus areas are support & hand-holding, grievance redressal, harnessing entrepreneurial talent and discovering new business opportunities," he said.

EPFO releases Rs 868 crore pension along with Rs 105 crore arrears on account of restoration of commuted value of pension

On the recommendation of Central Board of Trustees (EPFO), the Government of India accepted one of the long standing demands of workers to allow restoration of commuted value of pension after 15 years, according to a PIB report.

Earlier there was no provision for restoration of commuted pension and the pensioners continued to receive reduced pension on account of commutation lifelong.

EPFO has more than 65 lakhs pensioners catered through its 135 regional offices.
